The ABC of Dresses

Which dress to wear with an inverted triangle or oval morphology? What is a slip dress and how to wear an asymmetrical dress? LBD, midi dress, flared dress, shirt dress… What type of dress for a round woman, for a small size?

Dress designers have prepared the fit and pattern guide for you to make your life easier.

Here is the ABC of dresses to find you in the style dictionary, know what to wear and how!

A: The Asymmetric dress

What is that?

Experts speak of asymmetry in general to characterize the neckline or the bottom of cheap fashion clothing dresses. But the asymmetry can also be found, in reality, at other levels of the cut. It can have a single sleeve or two sleeves with a different design, ruffles of various sizes depending on the side, or even a shorter petticoat that stands out visually …

Ideal if …

You use asymmetry to draw the eye to a specific point on your figure and enhance it. In general, asymmetry tends to create diagonal lines which have the effect of reducing the volume.

It goes very well to the body type silhouette in rectangle: it brings a feeling of movement, of curves.

Style advice

To enhance the effect of asymmetry, add heels with striking shapes. Rope sandals, wedge heels, pointed pumps… Have fun lengthening your figure!

B: The Little Black Dress (LBD)

What is that?

Have you ever read “LBD” without knowing what it referred to? It is quite simply the English formula of “the Little Black Dress”.

Ideal if …

Back visually reduces volumes, smooths and hides imperfections, and enhances any material. Another huge advantage of the LBD: it is very versatile! You can wear it in a sophisticated fashion with a small handbag and heels, or with your favourite mules for a more relaxed side, or even with a pair of sneakers for a casual street touch.

Style advice

Whatever the material of your dress, remember that black is a sensitive colour when ironing. Also, always iron it inside out and use a fine cotton handkerchief between the iron and the dress to avoid leaving marks. Impeccable result!

C: The Shirt dress

What is that?

It is cut on the model of an extended shirt and is often cinched at the waist, with a belt of the same material as the dress. So much for the basic model. In fact, there are many variations! Maxi or midi length, sleeveless, short or long sleeves, gauze or poplin, plain or printed women’s fashion tops, fully buttoned or with three buttons and a polo collar.

Ideal if …

You are having trouble finding your ideal cheap fashion clothing. Shirt style women’s fashion tops have this advantage of going to all silhouettes.

Style advice

The two essentials of any self-respecting wardrobe are the plain shirt dress (in a colour that suits your complexion) and the colourful print version to brighten up your face… and grey days!

D- The straight dress

 What is that?

This is the simplest dress, which simply falls straight, like an oversized t-shirt would. It doesn’t mould to the body, it’s a comfortable, timeless piece that is really easy to wear.

Ideal if …

You are looking to conceal your hips, waist or reduce your shoulder width. It works very well on skinny silhouettes, especially with a fluid material.

This model of dress emphasizes the generous forms less. Indeed, it tends to bring a general and undifferentiated volume.

Style advice

This dress is a good basic. Play on its simplicity to accessorize it at your convenience. Geometric or mismatched earrings, glasses of the future, nylon handbag… Have fun!
